Community Music School has been recognized locally and nationally with honors including the Raleigh Medal of Arts Award and the Coming Up Taller Award, presented by the National Endowment for the Arts and the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities.

2010
In 2010, Community Music School received the Business Support of the Arts Award for Arts Education from the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County.

2003
CMS won a Coming Up Taller Award, which is a national initiative that recognizes and supports outstanding out-of-school and after-school arts and humanities programs for young people. The award is a project of the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, in partnership Coming Up Taller Awardwith three national cultural agencies: the Institute of Museum and Library Services, National Endowment for the Arts, and National Endowment for the Humanities. With this national recognition came a $10,000 award and the opportunity for our executive director and a student to travel to Washington D.C. to attend the awards ceremony hosted by then First Lady Laura Bush at the White House.  Coming Up Taller recipients are chosen through a national nomination process. In 2003, 378 organizations from 48 states, Puerto Rico, and Mexico submitted nominations for this prestigious award. CMS is proud to be one of only 16 organizations from the United States selected as Coming Up Taller Award winners that year.

1999
Community Music School received the prestigious Medal of Arts Award for outstanding contributions to the arts in Raleigh.
